Our Story
The Tribe Philosophy
Located in the heart of Battersea, within walking distance of Battersea Park & Clapham Junction Station, Tribe BJJ offers an inclusive, supportive community where we work together as a team to achieve our individual goals.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more than just a martial art. It's a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and growth. At Tribe, we provide the environment and expertise to help you unlock your full potential, both on and off the mat.
Our Approach
Our curriculum is designed for students to build a solid foundation through structured, progressive learning.
We emphasise the importance of fundamental technique, positional understanding, and problem-solving under pressure. Through our teaching methodology, we aim to create an environment where students build coordination, sharpen decision-making skills, and develop a resilient, competition-ready mindset—whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned competitor.
The Training Flow
Warm-Up & Mobility
We start with specific movements designed to improve mobility, reduce injury risk, and prepare your body for the rigours of training.
Technical Instruction
Our coaches break down key techniques, focusing on the refined details and concepts that make Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so effective.
Specific Drilling
Repetition is the mother of skill. We practice the techniques in a controlled environment to build muscle memory and fluid movement.
Positional Sparring
We apply the learned techniques under varying levels of resistance, refining your ability to execute under pressure.
Live Rolling
The class concludes with full sparring, allowing you to integrate all your skills into a dynamic, free-flowing "physical chess" match.
Our classes emphasize safety, controlled learning, and a smooth progression from understanding to execution.
Gym Etiquette & Guidelines
Your First Session
Arrive Early
Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your first class. This gives us time to show you around and get you signed in.
The Uniform
For your free trial, we will provide a clean Gi (uniform). Just bring a bottle of water and a pair of flip-flops/sandals for off-mat use.
Hygiene First
Hygiene is critical in BJJ. Ensure your nails are trimmed and stay off the mats if you feel unwell. No shoes on the mats, ever.
